GLENURY ROYAL

First Society bottling in 1989.
The distillery's founder, Captain Barclay, was a local MP and had friends at Court, on account of which William IV allowed him to attach a 'Royal' suffix. Joe Hobbs bought it in 1936, and sold it in 1938 for 2.5 times what he paid for it! Closed in 1985, and sold for residential development in 1992, the malt won the supreme prize at the 1996 International Wines & Spirits Awards
