ウェハースタイプのコーンカップにバニラアイスクリームにハニカムトフィーが入ったニュージーランドでホーキーポーキーアイスクリームと呼ばれるアイスが思い浮かぶ。口に含むと、まずピーチのアイスティーが爽やかに香り、赤パプリカとズッキーニのスパイシーなタルト・フランベへと変化する。加水するとストロベリーブラックペッパージャムや、ドライクランベリーとクルミのチャイスパイスアップルターンオーバーのスパイシーな果実味が現れる。 加水した味わいはシナモンアップルスパイスのショートブレッドクッキー。「Hokey pokey penny a lump, that's the stuff to make ye jump」という古い歌が頭に浮かぶ。
We were served a scoop of hokey pokey flavoured ice cream, which in New Zealand describes plain vanilla with small solid lumps of honeycomb toffee in a wafer style ice cream cone. On the palate, a refreshing sweet peach iced tea at first before a spicy tarte flambee with red bell pepper and zucchini took centre stage. Water added the spicy fruitiness found in a strawberry black pepper jam or a chai spiced apple turnover with dried cranberries and walnuts. To taste, cinnamon apple spice shortbread cookies and an old song came to mind “Hokey pokey penny a lump, that’s the stuff to make ye jump”.
